Pearl Earrings

I read about you in a story. You were held in awe by a young maids gaze. She had only dreamt of things as beautiful as those earrings, and had only recently dared to touch the yellow coat, and only because she knew she would not be seen. She longed for her Master to stare at her with the same concentration as he gave you. She did get to wear one pearl at least, and her Master did meet her eyes, finally. But she paid a heftier price for her time than you. Improper for a maid to have such freedoms, immediately accused of theft and worse. For you, I assume the task of posing, while seemingly handsome at first, eventually became trivial. Taken for granted, much like the chair you sat in, and the table you leaned on, both of which she took great care in dusting and shining everyday.

No, I had read the Girl with a Pearl Earring book, and this was not the painting but it referred to this painting in the story and the girl in this painting was used as a character in the book, and the props were also referred to. Awesome book by the way if you get a chance to read it.
